More Than Just a Daycare — A Partner in Your Child's Journey

My Story — Why This Matters

Audrey Sargent B.Ed.

Growing up, my mother ran a group home for adults with intellectual disabilities. I watched her work with compassion and dedication, supporting people society often overlooked. Those early experiences shaped who I am: someone who sees potential in every person, regardless of how the world labels them. This wasn't just my family's job — it was our values.

When I entered the education field, I made a deliberate choice: I would focus my placements in schools that served students with special needs. These were the students the system often left behind. The ones who needed advocates. The ones who had enormous potential if someone just believed in them. I spent my career working with these remarkable children. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Education from McGill University and my Early Childhood Education credential from Vanier College, with ongoing specialization in special education and inclusive learning environments.

Then Everything Changed.....

When my own son was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, I experienced something I hadn't expected: the fear and confusion that comes with not knowing what comes next. But I had advantages many families don't have. I understood the education system. I knew my rights. I could navigate IEP meetings and advocate effectively. I had 15+ years of training and experience to draw from. Most families don't have that background. That's when I realized my real calling: to help other families navigate what I'd navigated. To give them the confidence, knowledge, and support I had access to. To be the person I wish I'd had when my family got our diagnosis.

Real Credentials, Real Experience I'm not just reading from a textbook. I have:

Bachelor's degree in Education (McGill University)- 2010

A.E.C Early Childhood Education (Vanier College) - 2017

15+ years of hands-on experience in special education

Current work with other licensed teachers and certified behavior technicians. Collaboration with occupational therapists and board-certified behavior analysts. These credentials matter. They mean I understand child development, learning differences, and evidence-based practices.

Parent Experience, Not Just Theory

More importantly, I'm a parent of a child with autism. I've sat in the meetings you're sitting in. I've felt the confusion you feel. I've navigated the system you're navigating. I know the difference between what textbooks say and what actually works in real life.

Marginalized Communities Understand Other Marginalized Communities

Growing up with a mother who supported adults with disabilities taught me something important: marginalized people aren't looking for pity or charity. They're looking for someone who sees them fully — strengths and challenges. When you work with me, you work with someone who gets it on a cellular level. Who sees your child's potential. Who won't settle for less than what your child deserves.

Specialized in What Gets Left Behind

The students I've always focused on are the ones others overlook:

- Children with autism spectrum disorder

- Students with learning disabilities

- Children with intellectual disabilities

- Kids who learn differently

- Families navigating systems designed without them in mind

This isn't a side service. This is where I've focused my entire career.

Not every child will thrive in every environment. But I firmly believe this:  Every child can thrive somewhere. My job is to help you find that place and create it if it doesn't exist yet. That's what drives me. That's what I've been doing for over a decade. That's why families choose Scoot's Playhouse.
